Buffalo Kidney Walk 2014

We are just a week away from this years Kidney Walk in Buffalo! I know I know it’s a bit late to be writing about this but hey look on the bright side, last year I waited until the day before to write anything. See? Improvement! 

I will be doing my part by walking again this year and by raising money for the fundraiser. This year I want to talk about why it is important to donate to the Kidney Walk.

Walking in the Winter

Welcome to another installment in our Walking to a Transplant series!

I know, I know, but it’s cold outside! Trust me, no one knows this better than I do. I have to walk everywhere, the store, the library, the hardware store. I even have to stand at the bus stop for anywhere between five and twenty minutes at a time. So obviously it’s much easier for me to walk everywhere because I don’t have a choice about it.

I am in no way suggesting that you go outside an walk, it’s too cold and when I do it I am bundled up for a blizzard.

What I am saying is get on up off’a that butt!

Walking to a Transplant

I weigh 121 kg, or 266 lbs.

I have never had an issue with body image. That has just not ever been something that bothered me. What does bother me is the fact that my Nephrologist, my Nurse Practitioner, and my Nutritionist all tell me that I have to lose weight to get on the transplant list yet no one knows how much weight I am suppose to lose.

I don’t have very many options when it comes to exercise because I have a couple of herniated discs in my lower lumbar. The option that I do have that seems the lowest impact is, you guessed it, walking!

I have had this idea for a while now but I didn’t really think about it until two years ago when I saw a flyer for the local annual¬†Kidney Walk.
